The
ZAK BARRETT QUARTET released their first album, ‘XI by IV’ in January 2003; it
consists of all original music composed by Zak and features: Pete Riley
(drums), Andy Staples (bass), Sam (piano / keyboards) and Zak (sax) (www.zdbsax.moonfruit.com).
From Southend’s ‘Jazz
bar’ write up: ‘featuring a line up of some of the hottest
new jazz talent in the area they perform lively, funk-induced jazz of the
highest quality. The quartet play completely original material by Barrett and
Edwards.’

THE REAL THING will be keeping Sam busy during
2008 with many gigs all over the U.K. so to catch this funky show – with an excellent
band featuring, Sam, Jon Bower (Bass) John Chapman (Sax) Stuart Ansell (Guitar)
and Danny Rose (Drums).
Sam
is presently on a 50 date tour with Katy Setterfield (winner of BBC’s ‘The One & Only’ competition held
earlier this year) as a tribute to Dusty Springfield and introducing the
fantastic singing talents of Katy in her own right. This is a great show with an

Other work for Sam
during 2008 will include gigs with ZAK’S FELLOWSHIP OF FUNK at ‘The Bassment’
Wells Street, Chelmsford (Thursday nights from 9.30pm), THE ROB HUGHES QUARTET
(Rob has a superb album ‘BUTTERFLY’ which features Sam on a couple of tracks,

and the excellent function band, PLATINUM GOLD (www.functionband.com).
Sam also performs
regularly at the BELVEDERE JAZZ
CLUB (Hardings Elm Road, Crays Hill, Billericay) with the Mervyn Wright
Orchestra and also with his own trio, featuring guest artistes such as ALAN BARNES (Sax), BRUCE ADAMS (Trumpet) and
PHIL SNACK (Sax).
Last year Sam
recorded an album for singer / writer, Paul Da Vinci. Recorded at ffg studios
in Bredon, the album, containing all original songs by Paul, features; Alan

Sam continues to record and arrange backing tapes for
various dance / theatre school projects including Tiffany’s theatre college in
Southend and Claire Cooper’s Billericay Dance Centre. Sam also composed and performed
the score for a documentary on ‘Hylands House’ in Chelmsford (released in the
autumn of 2003) and ‘Fulham Palace’ (2006/’07) both short films by Phil Rhodes.
CLAIRE HARPER: Claire
is busy working with her quartet (see link) and on her own solo / duo projects
accompanying herself on the piano.
